Keralid Phenotype - Face Features & Origin

The Keralid phenotype is a south asia human phenotype documented in historical anthropology literature. This page presents the Keralid phenotype average face composite, its geographic distribution, physical characteristics, historical background, and academic references.

Average Face

The Keralid phenotype average face is a composite synthesized from multiple individual photographs by historical anthropologists. It represents a statistical impression of recurring facial features, not a real person.

Geographic Distribution

The Keralid phenotype is native to South Asia. The historical distribution below reflects approximate centers of prevalence documented roughly 1500 years ago; modern borders and population movements have since blurred these boundaries.

Approximate coordinates: 22.00°, 78.00° (latitude, longitude).

Physical Characteristics

Medium brown skin, strait or wavy hair. Rather short, mesoskelic, ectomorph. Dolicho-mesocephalic, mildly hypsicranic. Mildly leptorrhine, prominent, straight, and long nose. Overall coarse, angular facial features, but gracile bodies. Faces are long with the lower face appearing short, especially in women.

Historical Background

Indid subtype, with a position intermediate between North Indid and Gracile Indid, mainly found in the plains of Malabar. Typical for Tiyer / Ezhava, Mukkaver, Kammalan, Nairs, and similar medium ranked castes of Kerala. The special features of this type have usually not been regarded as a result of mixture, but as a local variety.
